Dumbleator has the send and return jacks right next to each other with a switched jack on the send going to the tip. It then goes to the return jack tip. So with nothing in the loop the two jacks are basically hard wired to each other. This device has the jacks on either side of the enclosure so they probably decided to not use a switched jack for the send and use the cable plugged into the send and return instead.

If John was that concerned about people knowing his gear he’d black out everything or control his board with foot switches or something. Love your videos but I don’t think there’s an ethical dilemma here lol it’s really not that deep

The super eagle still remains the best guitar john has played with D&C

His dead spec used in Summer 2023 Dead & Co was a prototype Dead Spec Silver Sky and at least appeared to have a 1 piece body. The production dead specs have 3 piece ash bodies (I have one and it's beyond amazing, exceeded all expectations!) The one he's using at Sphere is a different physical guitar than last summer because you can clearly see it's a 3 piece body during close ups at the show. So it's likely a production model. Between the Dead Spec for strat single coils and the 594 for humbucker, shorter scale Les Paul tones, Mayer sounds better than he ever has. Seriously, he and PRS are doing incredible work raising the bar for everyone.

I appreciate respecting our artists that we hold in such high regard, period. That being said, do you think John would stubble upon this video and be offended or betrayed by you talking about his pedals or other equipment? .. personally I doubt that for many reasons. Just my 2 cents. Many props for all the work you do & knowledge you share here 🫡🤘🏻

I played one of the blue collections ones that was at the guitar shop in toronto. I was going to sell a ton of gear to pay for it. We agreed to hold it for a day, then I would come back with a deposit, I get a call later from the guy who managed the shop with some bullshit about a flood and how they had to send it back to PRS. I knew it was bullshit from the get go, eventually I got him to admit that he sold it, I never felt so cheated in my life. Luckily I hadn’t sold anything, it’s just a shit way to do business, which is probably why they’re out of biz.

Is anyone by chance keeping track of which tunes John uses what guitars on? It’d be interesting to know if he’s used singles then hums on the same tune but different nights.

John used the Blue Curly PRS a lot during the 2016 dead and co summer tour. For Morning Dew, Dark Stars, and any blues songs. I have every dead and co show video and return to the 2016 shows a lot. Missed that one and im glad hes busted out out

Was at the Tempe Music Festival in 2006 and John was next to me stage left watching Jeff Beck. Said it was his first time seeing him play live and you could tell from the look on his face his mine was blown. Was cool that Pino Palladino played with Jeff Beck and the following day with Johns trio.

My Bluesbreaker has had many friends over the last 33 years. An SD1 and a CS3.... for a long time. 2B Boost, a Tim and a Cali76. These days the 2B and Cali + a Riverside and a Compadre...... It's at the heart of most of my sounds.

I can add a little to this as well. I have no idea if John owns this guitar or not, but I can tell you that this is one of at least 4 Jeff Beck "Reverse Headstock" guitars he owned. What's unique about this one is it has 2 string trees on it. Jeff has at least one with no string trees (probably his #1), one with 1 string tree, and one with 2 string trees (this one). As far as I can tell, John Mayer and Joe Perry are both playing the 2 string tree version. I have no idea if these are the same two guitars or if Jeff had multiple versions of the 2 string tree guitar but it's def not the "no string tree" version which Jeff was playing months before his passing. Honestly jm is just not as good as I hoped he would become. His blues licks are jarring in place of Jerry’s bluegrass rollls. I see he has fun and gets paid but it’s not great.

Literally just saw Dead and Co last night and without a doubt the tone from that Strat was the best of the night hands down !!
